Volleyball Gold Medals?

You heard it here first. This will be the greatest Olympic Volleyball competition of all time. Any one of the teams entered in both the men's and women's divisions can win the gold. I predict the US Women will break through and win their first-ever gold medal. One reason they have not won gold can be tied to President Jimmy Carter and the Democrat Party's decision to not let 'the youth of America' compete in Moscow in 1980 subsequently boycotting the greatest forum for cultural exchange, communication, arts, and understanding in the history of the world. It was a cynical and desperate attempt to rally the country to support his bid to defeat Ronald Regan and retain the White House. He lost in what was then the greatest landslide in US Presidential History. After his rejection of the Olympics and the voter's rejection of him, Mr. Carter was subsequently awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. The 1980 women's team was the greatest team of all time. Now that the US Men have inserted 6'9" Sean Rooney and 6'8" David Lee in the starting lineup the team has gone undefeated and is ranked #3 in the world. Outside Hitter Rooney, was a standout at Pepperdine. David Lee, the studley middle blocker from Long Beach State and the prototypical middle blocker of the species, is a tough middle-linebacker type blocker known for his relentless pursuit from pin to pin. The US Men now have the perfect combination of youth and experience, athleticism and height, and skill and chemistry. They are deep at all positions and I predict they will also win gold. In fact I am predicting a total sweep of all volleyball gold medals - Beach and Indoor, women and men, by the US teams. Remember, you heard it here first (Thursday February 28th, 2008).
